Club Name: Glad Thad
LIFE Motto: Rejoice Always
Thaddeus is the kind of friend who slows down to enjoy the little things—a fragrant flower, a cool drink on a sunny day, or a moment to simply relax and enjoy the moment. Known around the Living Water Club for his warm heart and gentle spirit, he brings a calm presence and cheerful smile wherever he goes, reminding others to appreciate life’s simple blessings. One of his favorite verses is 1 Thessalonians 5:16: “Rejoice always,” a reminder to find joy in the Lord and celebrate His goodness each day.
BIBLICAL BACKGROUND
Thaddeus was one of the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus (Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:16). He is also called Judas—not Iscariot (John 14:22) and Judas son of James (Luke 6:16; Acts 1:13). The NKJV rendering of Matthew 10:3 additionally refers to him as “Lebbaeus,” highlighting the multiple names associated with this disciple in the biblical record. Fittingly, the name Thaddaeus is often associated with a warm and courageous heart.
Scripture Spotlight
“Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but the other disciple with that name) said to him, ‘Lord, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us and not to the world at large?'”
— John 14:22 NLT
This is the only recorded statement from Thaddeus in the New Testament. On the night before Jesus’ crucifixion, Thaddeus sought to understand why He would reveal Himself to the disciples but not to the world (John 14:22). Like the others with him, Thaddeus was still learning the full scope of Jesus’ mission and kingdom, making his question a natural response. Jesus goes on to explain that He would make His home with those who love Him and keep His word (v. 23). This conversation forms part of Jesus’ teaching about His departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit, who would dwell within His followers, teach them, and remind them of His words (v. 26). Following Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, Thaddeus was among the disciples gathered together in Jerusalem as they awaited the promised Holy Spirit (Acts 1:13).
